  • Mandela was able to finish his degree and qualified as a Lawyer.
  • In 1952 Mandela and Tambo opened the first Black Law firm in South Africa

  •  On 10 May 1994, Nelson Mandela was inaugurated as the first democratically elected State President of South Africa 
  • In 1993 Nelson Mandela was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize

Turning point

  •  Nelson  Mandela became increasingly aware of the unjust nature of South African Society.
  • Mandela became involved in politics.
  • Mandela had to resign from the ANC and work underground
  • In 1962 Mandela had been arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment in the notorious Robben Island prison.
  •  Mandela’s release in 1990

Turning Points and Achievements - Bill Ferguson

Achievement:


  • Ferguson was vice-president of the New South Wales branch of the Australian Aborigines' League
  •  demands for democratic rights, the government in 1943 had two Aboriginal representatives elected to the board
  •  he became shed organizer for the Australian Workers' Union







Turning points:

  • On 18 February 1911 at Narrandera Presbyterian Church he married Margaret Mathieson Gowans
  • The family settled in 1916 at Gulargambone, where Ferguson re-formed the local branch 

  •  From 1928 he took labouring jobs, speaking in his union on reform of government relief work.
